RESPONSIBLE MATTRESS REMOVAL

Your old mattress doesn’t have to take up landfill space!

According to the Mattress Recycling Council, more than 50,000 mattresses are discarded in the U.S. each day. Those old, lumpy items aren’t just bad for our backs - they’re bad for the environment, too. Since they can’t be compressed, they take up large amounts of space in landfills.

The good news? More than 75 percent of your mattress can be recycled. By choosing Camo Crew Junk Removal, you can be confident your mattress will be recycled, not buried.

When we remove a mattress from any commercial or residential property we use the “Triple S” approach: Sort, Store and Ship.

Sort

  • If a mattress is clean and in good shape, we arrange for it to be donated

  • If a mattress is damaged or soiled, we earmark it for recycling

Store

  • Sorted mattresses are stored in our warehouse until they can be donated or recycled

Ship

  • Camo Crew ships up to 700 mattresses each year to a recycling facility in Illinois where they are disassembled so the parts can be re-used

How does mattress recycling work?

Many junk removal services don’t want the burden - and expense - of storing and handling mattresses. And many homeowners don’t know there are alternatives. Nationwide, it’s estimated that 8 million mattresses go into landfill each year. That’s too many! And that’s why Camo Crew recycles.

  • Fabric is sterilized, shredded and used for products like dog beds

  • Metal components are reclaimed for use in a variety of products

  • Wood components are turned into wood chips

How does this help the environment?

An analysis by the Mattress Recycling Council found that mattress recycling reduced greenhouse gas emissions along with water and energy use. The MRC analyzed the impact of mattress recycling in California for one year, and found that in 2021:

  • 75 million fewer pounds of greenhouse gases were emitted, which is equivalent to the emissions from driving a gas-fueled vehicle nearly 100 million miles

  • 818 million gallons of water were saved, equivalent to an annual consumption of 37,500 gallons

  • 174,000-kilowatt hours of power saved, equivalent to the amount of power a city of 40,000 residents would use in one year

Another way to put it: The materials reclaimed from every recycled mattress saved 500 gallons of water and enough energy to power the average household for three days while reducing greenhouse gas emissions by an amount equivalent to driving 60 miles.
