Bordering Lake Michigan and sitting on Ozaukee County’s southern border, Mequon is officially a city but doesn’t feel like one. Just a short drive from downtown Milwaukee, it has an appealing mix of commercial attractions, low-density residential properties and scenic farmland. Mequon’s 25 parks offer nature trails, biking and hiking trails, fishing ponds, canoe and boat launches, picnic pavilions and more. There are five golf courses, too. Clay bluffs along the lake, which range from 80 to 140 feet high, are characteristic of the region but found in few other areas of the world.

Fascinating Fact: At one time in the 19th century, the U.S. Government sold land in what is now the City of Mequon for $1.25 per acre.
